Boxing Students Fight in Evansville Show

boxing21310-071Boxing and MMA students from Community Martial Arts got to compete in a local show held by South Paw Boxing Club and Evansville Boxing Club. Two fighters were able to be matched up in turned out to be one of the biggest shows this city has had.  Coach Matt Reed was happy with his fighters citing ‘they did a great job and listened well.’

It was exciting to see so many boxers from the area competing in this amateur location. While the referees where still ‘a little green’ causing several fights to be stopped without cause and standing eight counts by boxers who were still punching and in the fight, we are happy that there is a local venue for our fighters to get a chance to work their skills and learn what it is going to take to get better.

There is nothing like getting in the ring. Local boxing couch Danny Thomas said that ‘it takes a brave and special person to get in that ring. While people in the stands may make fun or laugh, they are not brave enough to step in that ring and prove themselves.”

While our fighters lost by decision and a bad stoppage call by a referee, we are happy to see our fighters do a great job and look to more successful competitions in the near future.
