Now…
I don’t know about you, but I had a roller coaster weekend. Friday afternoon I
flew to Austin Texas. There I met with my business performance coach and mentor
Mike Massie. It was a great experience and I learned tons of new information and
now have a new strategy for success.
We have had some amazing growth over the last year. The Mount Vernon school has skyrocketed with tremendous results and tons of programs that we offer. The
Evansville school has stood its ground. While not perfect conditions, the
Evansville school has stayed profitable amidst the economic turmoil. We still
have students interested and we are doubly committed to providing the very
best in self defense education.
With the Evansville school we have expanded and doubled the location size. We
did this in hopes to make it easier for customers and parents. No longer will
our students have to wait in a cramped space until the end of class. No longer
will students wait for lengthy times for a changing room.
With the updated facilities comes a new convenience… Coffee and Cappuccino!
We offer Starbuck’s coffee and Have a frothy Cappuccino maker at both schools.
The Evansville Cappuccino maker gets installed this week!
Did I mention Free Taxes?
We are running an amazing deal! All new students get a free tax return service!
For those of you who refer the student, you get a $50 coupon to use towards
your own personal tax return. If you are interested in this service, fill out

The Dangers of Diet Soda
I am guilty. One of my vises and pleasures is drinking Diet Dr. Pepper. I must be addicted to it. However I am now in the process of wheaning myself off.
I noticed a couple of weeks ago that many of the overweight people I know in my life drank an over abundance of diet soft drinks. They drank it by the two-liter or by the 44 ounce cups. They drank it all the time. Rarely did I ever see them without a soft drink in hand.
One of the main things I learned during my trip to Austin this weekend was the ill effects of soft drinks and more importantly diet soda had on my health. Here is how it all started…
My business coach is struggling. He has lots of joint pains and problems due to a medical condition. He is a great martial artist but has found himself struggling. The pain that he is in has literally zapped his energy.
He is on a new health regemin. It is hard not to allow the healthy habits to rub off on you when you are immersed in their environment and staying in their home. My coach has taken alot of percautions to improve his health. He is eating healthy all natural foods. Because of the change of diet, he has seem dramatic improvements.
While I was there, I didn’t have my basic ‘must have’ in my home which is Diet Dr. Pepper. The entire weekend I only drank water and coffee. What amazed me was that in just three days, I found myself eating less because I was naturally full. I found myself with tons of energy. I even come home from my airplane trip and cooked dinner for the entire family which included carnitas, guacamole, beans, and tortillas.
Even today, with around five hours of sleep last night I have more energy. I am drinking mostly water and do not need as much coffee. I am awake, productive and energized.
The dangers of diet soda can be documented in several studies. The New York Times posted an article last year talking about this.
The one-third who ate the most fried food increased their risk by 25 percent compared with the one-third who ate the least, and surprisingly, the risk of developing metabolic syndrome was 34 percent higher among those who drank one can of diet soda a day compared with those who drank none.
Another Scary Article was found on a blog (getfitslowly) I read where they commented on a medical study.
In 2005, Sharon Fowler and her colleagues from the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio presented eight years of research data that explored the link between obesity risk and soft drinks. According to the WebMD summary of the study:
Fowler’s team looked at seven to eight years of data on 1,550 Mexican-American and non-Hispanic white Americans aged 25 to 64. Of the 622 study participants who were of normal weight at the beginning of the study, about a third became overweight or obese.
For regular soft-drink drinkers, the risk of becoming overweight or obese was:
- 26% for up to 1/2 can each day
- 30.4% for 1/2 to one can each day
- 32.8% for 1 to 2 cans each day
- 47.2% for more than 2 cans each day.
For diet soft-drink drinkers, the risk of becoming overweight or obese was:
- 36.5% for up to 1/2 can each day
- 37.5% for 1/2 to one can each day
- 54.5% for 1 to 2 cans each day
- 57.1% for more than 2 cans each day.
For each can of diet soft drink consumed each day, a person’s risk of obesity went up 41%.
So, when faced with all this information, I am forced to make yet another healthy decision in my life. It is time to kick the habit of diet soft drinks all together. Can you make a declaration of the same and join me in a ‘kick the habit’ of diet soft drinks?
