Testing This Weekend…
Don’t forget!
This weekend we will be testing for new ranks in both the kids and adult class. Be sure to bring your sparring equipment, mouth pieces and groin protection. Students should be prepared to do their forms, self defense applications and contact sparring with each other as well as with the instructors.
Good Luck To Everyone!!!

The ‘In Home’ Dojo Advantage

As you may already know, I have decided to move our school from the commercial location in Mount Vernon to my home at 412 Kennedy Drive, Mount Vernon.
Why?
There are many reasons why I decided to make this change. But I believe you know a few of them.
1. The economy – while we could easily stay in our location and ‘ride out the storm’, I believe the overhead of maintaining a building, utilities, rent could be allocated better. Imagine if you had to make two mortgage payments along with the utility bills. That is a lot to take on and a huge risk in today’s economy. So, instead we decided to save as much as we can and move back into our home. We believe we can still provide excellent instruction while keeping our costs down.
2. A change in Focus – I love teaching the martial arts. My biggest joy is seeing my students succeed. For the past seven years I have built the schools up and successfully ran them in a down economy. My hopes of course was to be able to teach full time. Many factors attributed to my final decision to move away from this goal. For one, in pursuit of this dream, I spent more and more time away from home. Being a father of four kids is tough, add a full time job and two businesses on top of that… I don’t know how I survived this long! So now my focus is on my family first and then teaching martial arts second. This has lead me to stop teaching certain classes and remove a lot of the busy-ness of running a school. Now it is a joy to teach, but at the same time I have more ‘family time’.
So…
Starting NEXT WEEK – classes will be held at my house located at 412 Kennedy Dr. Mount Vernon, IN 47620!
One of my favorite Kung Fu / Comedy Films Of All Time
If you haven’t had the chance to watch this movie, I highly encourage you to either rent, buy, or watch it online. I love this film because it combines so many of my favorite genres…. (Kung Fu and Comedy). While the material in this movie may not be all audiences, I cannot watch this movie without snorting at least once or twice. As a kid, I can remember bouncing from one couch to another after watching ‘Kung Fu Theatre’ on TV. I would pretend that I was a powerful warrior bent on a fateful path to destroy my enemy… the JERA MIE Army (another reason why I believe my brother goes by his middle name Scott and not his given name Jeramie). While most attempts of battling my evil foe ended up with me telling my Mom that ‘He Hit Me,’ I still remember how good these films made me feel. Go figure!
Anyhow, you can buy the movie REALLY cheap by following the link below. Amazon seems to have some amazing deals going on!

Martial Arts is safer than baseball?
It is that time of year again and spring sports are kicking off. There are many who think it is the time for ‘team sports’ and to hit the field.
Parent’s beware, Baseball is dangerous to your kids future!

That looked like it hurt....
Jokingly, of course we are going to say that martial arts is better for your kids than traditional spring sports. Buy WHY?
Spring sports such as baseball teaches one thing… Teamwork. Yet, there are so many things they are missing out on…
- Discipline
- Confidence
- Self Esteem
- Coordination
- Confidence
- Balance
- Respect
- Physical Fitness
- Overcoming Self and Obstcles
So while yes, spring sports are fun, we encourage parents to enroll in one of our many programs such as Tae Kwon Do, Boxing, Kung Fu, Mixed Martial Arts, Dance, or Tumbling.
You can’t learn all that in 5 weeks of spring sports! Save your kids and (your grandkids) future by enrolling today.

Pressure Point Charts
Many of you have been asking me where to find some great pressure point charts. Here are the charts I used to help me get started. I hope they help you as well.
You can use them to identify striking points when working on your forms or places to hit when doing your self defenses. Always think in the back of your mind “angle and direction.”
Angle and direction will guide you in knowing how to strike the point based on either the technique in the form or the technique described in your self defense.
Whether you are studying Tae Kwon Do, Kung Fu, MMA or Boxing, pressure points can help you better understand how the self defense works to your own advantage.
