Changes and getting stronger…
Changes…
Wow have we ever had some changes recently. For one, A new location. I believe we have officially settled in to our new location at 605 W. 4th Street.
However, It seems some people think we have closed down. So we are working on getting a sign set up outdoors so that traffic has a better idea of what is going on at our school.
Until then, we work diligently to spread the word about the many awesome and unique programs at our school.
Coach Matt Reid
Coach Matt Reid is running a great boxing program. If you haven’t seen it yet we were in the MV Democrat this week due to the many awesome things the boxing program is doing.
The program started small but in a very short amount of time, the program has grown and we have already attended our first boxing show.
Next month several of our boxers will be competing in Jr. Olympics and we believe we have the right mix of good coaches and dedicated students to succeed.

Preparing Your Children!

Children are naturally trusting and curious. They want to be helpful. Those who attack children take advantage of these qualities to trap them. Here’s how you can prepare your children to defend themselves.
Steps:
1. Plan ahead. Consider those situations where your children are most vulnerable to attack (for example, at the playground, in a neighbor’s yard, biking on the next street).
2. Identify the top one or two self-defense techniques your children might use if they were attacked in the home, at the playground, and so on.
3.Organize a family meeting on self-defense, similar to family rehearsals in case of fire. Ask the children “what would you do if’” scenarios, based on your list of possible situations. Tell them when to call 911 and when to run away.
4. Identify safe havens for the children to run to if approached or attacked. Make sure the children understand that their primary goal is safety and that it’s okay to tell on an adult.
5. Enroll your children in a basic self-defense course or martial arts school. Many programs specialize in coaching children how to deal with strangers who pose as family friends or who ask a child to find a lost puppy.
Old School {Blurry} Video of Sifu Josh Curry’s head Versus 3 boards
While Sifu Curry isn’t going out teaching america’s youth the glory of history and communism (joke), he has been known to go and do some rather crazy things. Well when you get some over tired martial arts students hanging out after class one night and somebody has a camera phone…. well carnage ensues!
Watch the following clip of Sifu Curry Crashing his head through 3 boards.

New Years Resolutions in Mount Vernon and Evansville Indiana

New Years Resolutions at Community Martial Arts
Welcome to an exciting, eventful and wonderful NEW YEAR at Community Martial Arts…

We are giving away our ‘Weight Loss / Exercise Class’ absolutely free for the month of January. If you are a student, parent, friend or coworker, second cousin-twice removed…. or just anyone, you can get a month of fat burning, fun exercise classes that meet three times a week!!!
I guarantee you will lose 10 pounds by the end of the month!
I also want to let you know how excited we are to launch this new year. While taking a much needed break over the last week, we are ready to go and re-energized. You never know how worn out you really are until you have the chance to take a break.
I spent most of my time at home. Believe it or not, a lot of time was devoted to you. How can I do better? How can I keep challenging you to achieve more? What can I do that will improve your performance and improve your ability to succeed?
These are all questions I considered this year. Believe it or not, I think I have some answers. First and foremost we have some cool new programs to mention…
We started ‘Black Belt Club’ for the the kung fu students but we are going to be extending this on to the Tae Kwon Do class as well. The reason for this is that learning weapons, pressure points and other techniques crosses stylistic boundaries. So, you can learn these cool things as well if you are in the Tae Kwon Do class. We will be finishing introductory broadsword and start teaching Bo Staff/Bong Sool.
Boxing is back! I am very pleased to announce a boxing program is in the works and will begin rather shortly this month. Those who are interested in the boxing program need to see Master Barnes. Our boxing instructor is a golden gloves winner and parent to students in our current martial arts programs. I think he is an excellent choice for instructor and he will provided great instruction to all of our boxers.
While there are more things going on that I would like to mention, I am going to save those for another post.
Be sure to be on the look out… Great Things Ahead!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Evansville and Mount Vernon
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Evansville and Mount Vernon, Indiana

Well, it is that time of year again…
This marks the end of a one year and the beginning of something new. 2009 represented a lot of new programs and offerings for our schools. It also left us in mourning the loss of a truly great martial artist and father in Grandmaster Roger D. Barnes. With all that, we have experienced growth, change, and loss. Just like the seasons, we will have a usher forth proudly and strongly into the new year.
We are excited to have you in our family and can’t wait to show you what we have in store for 2010. It is truly going to be exciting.
As we get ready for New years, I am interested in knowing what your ‘New Year’s resolutions’ will be, write them in below. The one with the best resolution gets a FREE FITNESS BOOTCAMP for a MONTH!
