New Years Resolutions in Mount Vernon and Evansville Indiana

New Years Resolutions at Community Martial Arts
Welcome to an exciting, eventful and wonderful NEW YEAR at Community Martial Arts…

We are giving away our ‘Weight Loss / Exercise Class’ absolutely free for the month of January. If you are a student, parent, friend or coworker, second cousin-twice removed…. or just anyone, you can get a month of fat burning, fun exercise classes that meet three times a week!!!
I guarantee you will lose 10 pounds by the end of the month!
I also want to let you know how excited we are to launch this new year. While taking a much needed break over the last week, we are ready to go and re-energized. You never know how worn out you really are until you have the chance to take a break.
I spent most of my time at home. Believe it or not, a lot of time was devoted to you. How can I do better? How can I keep challenging you to achieve more? What can I do that will improve your performance and improve your ability to succeed?
These are all questions I considered this year. Believe it or not, I think I have some answers. First and foremost we have some cool new programs to mention…
We started ‘Black Belt Club’ for the the kung fu students but we are going to be extending this on to the Tae Kwon Do class as well. The reason for this is that learning weapons, pressure points and other techniques crosses stylistic boundaries. So, you can learn these cool things as well if you are in the Tae Kwon Do class. We will be finishing introductory broadsword and start teaching Bo Staff/Bong Sool.
Boxing is back! I am very pleased to announce a boxing program is in the works and will begin rather shortly this month. Those who are interested in the boxing program need to see Master Barnes. Our boxing instructor is a golden gloves winner and parent to students in our current martial arts programs. I think he is an excellent choice for instructor and he will provided great instruction to all of our boxers.
While there are more things going on that I would like to mention, I am going to save those for another post.
Be sure to be on the look out… Great Things Ahead!

Thanks for coming back. if you haven't already, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Evansville and Mount Vernon
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year Evansville and Mount Vernon, Indiana

Well, it is that time of year again…
This marks the end of a one year and the beginning of something new. 2009 represented a lot of new programs and offerings for our schools. It also left us in mourning the loss of a truly great martial artist and father in Grandmaster Roger D. Barnes. With all that, we have experienced growth, change, and loss. Just like the seasons, we will have a usher forth proudly and strongly into the new year.
We are excited to have you in our family and can’t wait to show you what we have in store for 2010. It is truly going to be exciting.
As we get ready for New years, I am interested in knowing what your ‘New Year’s resolutions’ will be, write them in below. The one with the best resolution gets a FREE FITNESS BOOTCAMP for a MONTH!

We value our customers

We value our customers
We value you
But we need to do a better job proving it
I think that sums it up. As a business owner, I have had to deal with
the many ups and downs associated with running a small business. When I
thought I had it all figured out, I realized that I needed to go another
direction to improve. I am not above making changes and believing that
there are areas which need improvement.
The one thing that I never lost site of was the importance my students
were to the success of my business. Obviously without you, we wouldn’t be
in business. Without you, we wouldn’t have anyone to pour our lives into
and share our love of the martial arts and fitness.
So, to better help you and provide a more valuable service to my students
I am going to offer a few things which I believe will improve the value you
see in our programs.
Value number 1 - Some extra time absolutely free
If at all possible, I or another instructor will be on location thirty
minutes prior to class start. We encourage you to come earlier if you need
the following:
- Some extra help with a technique, form or self defense
- Want free extra training time with an instructor
- Wish to have time to work out on your own
- Get extra training on advanced techniques or concepts
- Ask questions, get input
- Want to get some extra sparring time in with your friends
Value number 2 - A free trial month of the fitness boot camp
The holiday months are upon us. I know that the battle to keep weight off
or even being motivated to get in shape is hard during this period. If you
are a member in any of our programs, either you or a parent of a member of
our programs can take the fitness boot camp absolutely free as our way to
help you get in shape and lose weight before the new year. This will
definitely kick your new years resolutions into high gear.
Value number 3 - $100 referral bonus
The $50 referral bonus was a huge hit a year ago, but maybe we need to up
the ante a bit. I know that making a decision about joining our program
could be tough especially during the holidays when you are scrambling to
get those last minute Christmas gifts. Let me help by rewarding you by
referring new students to our program.
For every student that you refer that signs up for our program, you will
receive $100 bonus referral. It is our way of appreciating you for thinking
of us by referring us to your friends.
Value number 4 - Parents Association
It has always been my heart to be able to give back to the community. One
of the ways we can do this is to form a parent’s association. The goal of
this association is to do civic activities and raise money towards helping
children and teens who normally couldn’t afford these types of programs.
I would like to get more involved in helping the needy in our communities.
I would like the parents association to be the civic arm of our like minded
group. We can raise funds for the homeless, provide car washes to raise
money to send kids to hospitals who need it. We can buy much needed medical
equipment for those who cannot afford to do so.
I believe that to truly be a black belt in any art, they must understand
the importance of protecting others. There is no better way to teach this
than by doing it. I believe it is a great way to reach out and serve
others.
Value number 5 - Will teach for food?
I am a huge supporter of the Mount Vernon Food Pantry. At the end of
October, we helped sponsor a Zombie Walk where 75 people showed up to
donate canned goods for the food pantry and raise money for United Way.
There are some great photos of me on Facebook dressed as a Zombie!
But more to point…
Does your church or organization want to have a Self Defense Seminar?
Would your organization or business be interested in a Qi Gong
Healing/Stress Reduction Seminar?
Does your children’s program at church or after school program need to
talk about ‘Stranger Danger’ and how to avoid being abducted?
In the past I have charged for these services. Now they are given away in
exchange for donations to the Mount Vernon Food Pantry. It is my way of
contributing my services towards a worthy cause. Help me help others by
talking about these free public education classes I am giving away. Not
only does it help your organization or group, it will help our community at
large.
Conclusion
It is my hope that you see that we really value you as a customer and
fellow member of Community Martial Arts. I am trying to build a large
social group of like minded and like-hearted people who love our community
and value the arts.
Sincerely,
Jeff Barnes
Crazy knife fighting video and what you can learn from it

Crazy knife fighting video
You can learn a lot from the following video
Here you can see that even when the attacker has a knife in his back hand, the defender can throw him around like a rag doll. Imagine if the defender had a knife as well. More than likely he would have been able to subdue his attacker.
What I would like to mention is that as in all self defense, it does matter who your attacker is. More times than not an attacker will come after you because he believes that he or she has some physical advantage over you. That advantage be it size or a weapon will in their eyes render you under their control.
However an untrained, emotional, angry attacker rarely can think straight. In this video you can see that this person was unsuccessful at harming the other person and got themselves almost hit by oncoming traffic. This is a good note to mention when you see someone carrying a weapon in their back hand.
If the lead leg and arm are without a weapon, this is a quick and easy target to use to throw off the attack. Stomping the foot, knee or kicking the outside of the leg of the attacker can redirect them and give you the few precious seconds necessary to get away. In the event that you find yourself under attack, you can grab the lead arm to literally direct your attacker in another direction or sway them away from you as in this video.
Day Time Classes Are Here

We have a cardio kickboxing class that kicks butt
So, are you looking for something to do during the day?
Do you need some extra exercise in your day?
Then we have something for you - Cardio Kickboxing Classes have now come to Mount Vernon Indiana.
Every Tuesday and Thursday we have exercise classes at 9:15 AM. This is great time for moms because they have time to get the kids off to school and now need some time for themselves while not wrecking their whole day. We know you are busy and have tons of things to do during the day so that is why the class is geared towards 45-50 minutes of great calorie burning workout. You can be in and out of the class in one hour! Just in time to meet your friends for lunch or to get home to do the laundry (if you have too).
Can you believe what this means to you? Most people are resolved to workout in the weekends or late evenings. This sure doesn’t work for families who have children. By the time they get home from school, you are working on homework, juggling after school programs, and trying to get dinner on the table. We know that you have a ton on your mind during the evenings. This equates to not having time for yourself to work out.
One other thing we forgot to mention -> FREE BABYSITTING WHILE YOU WORKOUT!
Yes, if you have little ones at home and need someone to watch them… We do it absolutely free so you can get in your daily work outs. We provide this service on site so you are never too far away to check in on your children if you wish!
That is why it is so important for you to get out there and take advantage of this program! And what can we do to make it easy for you to join?
Because we will give you an entire month for only $7. To get this unbelievable offer, simply go to http://www.communitymartialarts.com and pay via paypal. This will reserve your spot. But hurry! This offer expires in thirty days OR when 20 people sign up. So you know this offer won’t last long!
$7 for a month of cardio kickboxing classes WITH free babysitting? YES.

In Memory Of Roger Dale Barnes

Grandmaster Roger D. Barnes 12/1/1952 - 10/2/2009
I would like to thank everyone for their love and support as we grieve the loss of Grandmaster Roger D. Barnes on October 2nd, 2009. It meant a lot to me to see everyone come and visit him one last time along with offering your love and support during our time of loss. While we haven’t taken everyone up on their offers for help, we appreciate all the offers of support and aid at this time.
I know Dad would never want us to shut down the school because of him, we have opened the school this week after his funeral. The Tae Kwon Do program will continue just as it did before Sensei Lorelei Barnes will continue to teach. You will also see new faces such as Sensei Derek Almon who is a third degree under Grandmaster Roger Barnes. You will also see myself. I will help step in and teach along with the other instructors to help carry on the tradition of Sun Do Won Tae Kwon Do.
Some really cool changes is that we have re-affiliated ourselves with the Moo Do Won associations. This is a direct link to the WTF and Kukiwon Association. This is the world recognized leader in Tae Kwon Do. It also gives us the ability to have access to participate in the Olympic Sport of Tae Kwon Do as well as be a part of the AAU tournaments.
Again, I extend my thanks and appreciation of what everyone has done for us and shared with us during this time. Fear not, we will continue onward with the same steadfastness and drive that my Father taught me so many years ago.
Respectfully,
Master Jeff Barnes
